In order to extend the visibility of in-transit and at-rest inventory of Caterpillar orders, a pilot program ran as a small-scale project - tracking approximately 100 shipments for a duration of 2 months to help the company learn how a large-scale project might work in practice.
• Demonstrate the capability of IoT technology as applied to Caterpillar shipments using sensors and geo fencing.
• Extend visibility beyond plant-to-dealer to include assembly events at dealer and delivery to customer.
• Demonstrate value of a simplified and unified user interface that scales across multiple form factors, including desktop, and mobile with role based data granularity.
• Show capability to scale the solution beyond pilot scope.
The project was fast-paced with multiple testing sessions with our users - logisticians (Caterpillar) and dealership managers (Finning Canada). Weekly demo presentations were held with high level executives to present ongoing findings of the pilot. This proved extremely helpful considering the duration of the project and the large number of variables involved.
Here is a short presentation of the problems and the solution by the Director of Transportation at Caterpillar.
